Total Time 9 hours hrs
- ½ cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons corn syrup
- 6 1-inch thick slices of French bread
- 5 large eggs
- 1 ½ cups half-and-half cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon brandy-based orange liqueur such as Grand Marnier

Melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the brown sugar and corn syrup, and cook until the sugar is dissolved. Pour this mixture into a 9x13-inch baking dish.
Trim the crusts off the bread and arrange the slices in a single layer in the baking dish. In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, half-and-half, vanilla, brandy, and salt. Pour the mixture over the bread. Cover and refrigerate for at least 8 hours, or overnight.
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Remove the baking dish from the refrigerator and allow it to come to room temperature.
Bake, uncovered, in the preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes, or until puffed and lightly browned.
