Expert Tips
While dill pickles are traditionally used for fried pickles, feel free to use any type of pickles you prefer. I’ve found that pickle slices crisp up better than spears. This may be because the thin slices cook faster and have more surface area to become crispy.
Pork panko is simply ground pork rinds. While you can crush them yourself using a food processor, I prefer buying pre-ground pork panko to save time.
Before breading the pickles, taste them first to decide if you want to add salt to the pork panko mixture. The pickles I used were salty enough, so I didn’t need to add any extra salt.
You might need to cook the pickles in batches, as they cook best when arranged in a single layer. Depending on your air fryer, the surface area may not be large enough to fit all the pickles at once.
For extra crispiness, spray or brush the pickles with cooking oil before air frying each side. I like using avocado oil spray, as it works really well for this purpose.
The coconut flour and egg mixtures help the pork panko adhere, ensuring your pickles come out perfectly crispy in the air fryer. It only takes 10 minutes of cooking, and you don’t have to worry about oil splattering on your skin or clothes.
To add a little heat to these pickles, try adding cayenne pepper or Cajun seasoning to the pork panko mixture.
Since the pickles I used were salty enough, I didn’t need to add more salt. Taste the pickles first and adjust the salt as needed.
Serving Tips
Serve these pickles immediately. They’re delicious with ranch dressing, but feel free to pair them with any dipping sauce you like. Chipotle mayo, roasted garlic aioli, sour cream, or even ketchup are excellent options.
Storage Tips
These air fryer fried pickles will last up to 3 days in the refrigerator when stored in an airtight container.
